Candidate Student

The Department of Social Studies Education started its activities in the 1998-1999 academic year, affiliated to Atatürk Faculty of Education, Department of Primary Education. In 2016, within the scope of the restructuring of the faculties of education, the Department of Social Sciences and Turkish Education was established and the Department of Social Studies Education was affiliated to this department. The education period is four years.

The main purpose of the department is to train social studies teachers for the second level (5-8) of primary schools. Graduates of the Social Studies Teacher Education Program teach courses such as Citizenship and Democracy Education, History of Turkish Revolution and Kemalism, which are within the scope of social studies teaching, in addition to social studies courses at this level.

The Department of Social Studies Education has been admitting 100 students each academic year since the 1998-1999 academic year. It graduated its first students at the end of the 2001 - 2002 academic year.

The Department of Social Studies Education also conducts "master's" and "doctorate" programs in the Department of Social Studies Education within the Institute of Educational Sciences.

Our graduates can work as Social Studies Teachers in public and private schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education.
